How I Built My First SaaS App for $10: A Weekend Builder’s Journey

4 min readJun 21, 2025

1. The Real Problem I Saw (Idea behind MokshaMetrics)

Over one weekend, I noticed friends, who are freelancers, solo consultants and part-time professionals, managing client info across spreadsheets, calendars, email, and chat apps. One missed a follow-up and lost a client; another accidentally sent invoices twice. That sparked a mission: centralize leads, automate follow-ups, and streamline invoicing — all on a shoestring budget.

2. Setting the Weekend Challenge

Goal: Build a functional MVP in just 48 hours, with only a domain purchase (~$10) as budget. No paid hosting, no complex setup.

Tech stack:

  • Frontend: React
  • Backend: Node.js + Supabase for auth, database, and storage
  • Hosting: Netlify (free tier)

3. Day 1: Planning, Schemas & Authentication

  • Mapped core workflows: lead capture, email scheduling, invoice creation, and calendar sync
  • Drew quick UI sketches: dashboard, lead-detail view, invoice modal
  • Set up Supabase schema
  • Implemented social/email-based signup and a blank user dashboard by evening

4. Day 2: Core Features + Integrations

  • Lead management: Create, edit, delete, add notes
  • Email scheduler: Pick follow-up times → Node server schedules → Supabase triggers via SendGrid
  • Invoice builder: Select lead → Add items → Generate PDF with jsPDF → Send via dashboard
  • Calendar sync: OAuth integration with Google Calendar to add events directly

By evening, every feature worked — just needed fine-tuning.

5. Day 3: Polish, Responsive UI & Launch Prep

  • UI cleanup: Custom React components, mobile-first responsiveness, refined color palette
  • UX polish: Loader indicators, toast notifications
  • Screenshot: Captured a high-res dashboard showing “Send Invoice” & “Schedule Email” buttons for visual clarity
  • Beta testing: 3 friends tested the complete flow; UX bugs were logged and fixed
  • Deployment: Launched live via Netlify and shared the URL with 10 users

Initial reactions:

“Super fast and intuitive — did more in 10 minutes than my old system in 2 days.”
“This is exactly what I needed.”

6. Demo Video and Site: See It in Action

Reading about features is one thing but seeing them in action is another. To give you a real feel for how MokshaMetrics can simplify your workflow, I’ve set up two ways for you to explore the app:

8. Lessons Learned — Beyond the Weekend

  • Rope in scope control — Every minute counts. This focus mirrors how successful micro‑SaaS builders approach side‑project (medium.com)
  • Managed backends like Supabase save endless setup time
  • Talk to real users early — friends’ feedback reshaped workflows and UX

9. What’s Next: Iterate, Improve, Expand

  • Adding user feedback modules within the app
  • Integrating WhatsApp/Slack reminders and payment tracking
  • Email syncing and lead sanitization

💬 Your Input Matters

Do these pain points — lead scatter, lost follow-ups, invoice delays — resonate with you?
Which feature would transform your workflow?
Would you like early access to test it?
